Smaller particles… Quarks! they come in different flavours (which is the way we call the types of quarks) and they are bound by gluons (which are bosons, other type of particle)
The theory of particle physics called ‘the Standard Model’ says that electrons are an elementary particle so they aren’t thought to be made of anything smaller. Protons and neutrons are both a type of particle called a ‘Baryon’ and they are made up of three quarks. Like electrons, quarks are thought to be an elementary particle and they combine in lots of different ways to make all sorts of particles!
Protons and Neutrons are made of quarks. There are 6 quark types we know of: up, down, charm, strange, top and bottom.
The Proton is made of 2 ups and 1 down, the Neutron of 1 up and 2 down quarks. Electrons as far as we know are elementary and not composed of other particles.
