      The surface area of Russia (17 million square km) is just under half the surface area of the Moon (38 square km) – which is still pretty big!

      It depends what way you wanted to ask the question!

      If you were to plonk the moon on the surface of Russia then yes Russia would span wider than the moon if you looked down at it from above.

      Google up photos of ‘Moon compared to Australia’ and you can see this comparison of size. Taking into account that Russia is twice the size of Australia (in terms of surface area) then it’s obvious that is larger when compared to the moon’s diameter or cross-sectional area.
