There is now a quantum theory that explores the multiverse. When we do quantum mechanics, we do not know what is the state of the particle we are studying. We only know it can be in a number of states, and we can assign probabilities to each of them. Therefore our particle will be in one of them, but we only know the probabilities of the different options.
There is a theory now saying that the different possibilities reside in different world. This theory, believe it or not, makes quantum mechanics a bit more intuitive…

There are lots of different theories that suggest multiple Universes, actually 🙂 They’re all hard to prove though, because we can’t look out of our own Universe. My personal favorite is called “eternal inflation”: our Universe might be a small bubble that cooled down and formed in the rapidly expanding space. Because this bubble cooled down a bit, it stopped expanding as much. If this is true, there are likely other bubbles like ours, and some scientists even look for signs that our bubble may have collided with a different one! But this theory is really hard to prove, just something fun to think about 🙂

There are quite a lot of theories from different fields of physics that explore multiple universes. Some examples are the ‘many worlds’ interpretation of quantum mechanics and string theory. Personally, I am keeping an open mind about it but I won’t be fully convinced until we have some more compelling experimental evidence for these theories! If there are other universes, I think it would be incredibly difficult to get there but who knows what future technologies we might develop!
