I love that I can be creative in my job and think about new ways to solve problems or learn about our world.

But, as an academic…I need money to do this, so I first have to convince other people that my ideas are good. Funding can be very competitive sometimes so you have to be resilient and just keep trying to improve your ideas or think of new ones.

As a scientist in a university:
Best parts: having freedom to think about problems and choose projects, meeting and talking to cool new people, visiting cool places with work
Worst parts: writing up reports, travelling between the cool places, constantly having to ask for more money or moving to other countries, the growing amount of work that universities make you do for the same pay
But you can be a scientist in a company, where you might have a bit less freedom to choose what you want to do but the company can give you more stability and might also pay you better

One of the worst parts: not knowing everything you need for your project
One of the best parts: not knowing everything you need for your project

Although solving problems could be difficult and stressful because of our current knowledge, it also means you can keep on learning new stuff everyday!
